Candy Nicks - Biography
I'm a wife and mum to two teenage boys and I live in England, just north of Manchester in a town called Bury. From my window I can see Holcombe Hill which is part of the Lancashire Moors and very inspirational as far as romance settings is concerned. Not strictly Wuthering Heights ( my favourite book), but it could be.
I was born in the lovely seaside town of Terracina in Italy which again would make a wonderful setting for a romance. We live with two cats and two guinea pigs, and I always seem to be in the middle of a house restoration project, because life isn't quite hectic enough...
I came into e publishing in 2005 when I was co founder (with two colleagues) of Linden Bay Romance, where I was Chief Publishing Editor. My writer friend Felicity Heaton and I started Alinar Publishing in October 2006 to pioneer the concept of providing a place where ourselves and authors could self publish novels and retain full control of the process as well as reaping the full rewards. Felicity and I work for free running the site, while the authors produce their own books and send them to us for upload and distribution. So far it's working very very well and I think this is the way that more authors are going to be selling their e books in the future.
I first started reading romance back in the bodice ripper days. I have a very soft spot for beta heroes, but that's not to say I don't like a big tough guy too. Strong heroines are a must. I like heroines who go get their man no matter what the odds. History is a passion of mine so it follows that I read a lot of historical no
vels. I love it when a film or a story makes me cry and to be a keeper the characters have to live and breathe and become so real that I feel I've met them in person. That for me, is the mark of a great romance.
I used to write Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfiction and am still in the middle of a very strange Buffy/Star Wars crossover fic. One day I will finish it.... My fanfiction persona is Moxie, and I started writing NC17 rated stories as CandyKnicks. That became Candy Nicks under which name I write adult-rated original fiction romance.
